Where have I been the last month? I was, again, ENSLAVED BY GAMES! This time it was Mechwarrior 3 and 4.
A little bit of history. Before college, my main source of recreation was the AD&D paper-and-pen RPGs. Then came college in 1988, and my own PC, and games, games, games! During the worst part of it, I hardly attended school at all, coming to class only for exams, playing games at every waking moment.
I stopped playing games around 1992, when I started playing with my band. That was a 4 year addiction to games that was finally over. I was OK until shortly before I flew to the US to work - around 1999, but that was just for a month - something to do to fight boredom.
Today its 2005, and I’m again playing games, not getting any sleep, and skipping work because of the ensuing headaches and fevers! Dont laugh - video game addiction is as real as PATHOLOGICAL GAMBLING or COMPULSIVE SHOPPING! Check out this link!
I started playing again, innocently enough, to while away the time as I travelled 6 hours each way from NY to Seattle, little did I know
Maybe I am obsessive-compulsive by nature, but the greatest geniuses were, too. Michelangelo would work non-stop on The David, not sleeping, bathing, taking off his shoes, or stopping to bandage his hands when they kept on bleeding because of his non-stop chiseling.
Presently, I have it somewhat under control. I can go days without playing games - what I cant do is stop playing once I’ve started.. wish me luck!
